You might think from the initial outlook it doesnt look like the most original game in the world, and you would be correct, though if a certain style of game play isnt broke why fix it?

It a classic shmup clone of many others in the past though Jets and Guns gives an entire new perspective on gameplay, and is innovativley exciting throughout, with countless numbers of weapons and gadgets to aid you in your quest against the 12 masters of destruction. The game works on a currency system in order to aqcuire the lastest weaponry, in which you gain dependant on how successful you were during each level. The gameplay itself is its best selling feature, with an initially colourful and riveting interface aswell as quality destructive sound effects adds so much to the excitement, plus the shere quantity of levels and there appearances.

I was initially impressed by the standard that had been set by the creators of this game, after testing a vast quantity of ok'ish independant releases, the number of different strategic options for such a small budget game was fresh and exciting.

Gameplay - 9
Graphics - 7
Sound - 7
Value - 8
Tilt - 8

Some of my previous works i thought id show, as a huge admirer of the illustrator H.R.Giger as well as the artist Sir Francis Bacon, while at college, i did a historical study into both their works. I am greatly interested in their style of art and illustration, they base their work on distorted and repulsive human features, which has captured my curiosity since my first taste of a Silent Hill game, which is greatly influenced by Sir Francis Bacons art stlyized approach to the human form. I genuinly enjoy the originality of their art and how they create something so repulsive yet so overwhelmingly beautiful.

These are a few images i created of my own which i developed based on the styles of each of these sources.

You can plainly disipher the advantages of colour in certain areas of study. Here the colour sets much more of a scene and also gives the character a deeper persona.

Heres some modelling iv been doing in my spare time, its from a maya learning book "the game artists guide to maya" which i got many months ago, though didnt realise you needed a general understanding of the software to use it. Though after our lesson last week, i gave it another try and found it much easier to navigate, though this is just the beginning, the second part is to create a monster to go with it, which i will post at a later date, as i left the disc which came with it back home.

the image behind i used as reference. helps a great deal.

I have finally come to a conclusion with my design, even though its my first time, i think i have done fairly well, i would love to put more detail upon it, though i didnt want to get too complicated, as it was supposed to be simple and basic. I gave it side mirrors, bumpers and also a spare wheel, i thought this gave it more of a personality rather than it looking too mundane.

My first time using maya has been a very encouraging one in terms of how much fun i have had modelling my vehicle, i can only say that the best course you can do is one you enjoy. And with my "introducing maya 7" book arriving this morning i hope to show much more modelling work.

p.s. Special thanks to heather for showing me how to change the colour of the wheels, lol. and Bobby for helping me invert the side mirror. Cheers guys
